yes, it could be fine. An alternative solution could be sub categories in this forum (if it is technicaly possible). For exemple, once per container : OGM, RV9, matroska, ...
I voted yes, but I would like to qualify this. Creating a RV9 section would not be so great, but creating a Real Media section would. This could encompass video, audio, and container questions relating to version 9, and all other versions. (I am assuming that they will come out with a Real Media 10 eventually.) I also think that it would be a good idea to have a Windows Media forum also, and am rather surprised that these forums don't exist. Having the "New A/V Formats" forum under "MPEG-4 and Co." doesn't really make sense, as the new stuff isn't MPEG-4 related material. Creating a seperate Matroska section at this time wouldn't be helpful to anyone as the Matroska team already has a on corecodec.com, and there doesn't seem to be enough traffic yet specific to containers to warant specific forums for mp4, ogg, mkv, avi, rm, etc. But, I digress. I think a "Real Media" and "Windows Media" section should be created.
Well folks. I honestly don't see it. There is simply not enough volume IMO to justify such a thing and all the work it would entail. Appointing new mods, or increasing the work load of super mods. Is this forum not serving your needs? If so let your friendly mods know so we can make changes if nescessary.
poll is dead even, 19 to 19. I also think it would be a great idea! there are many other forums that get much less posts than an Real Media forum would. Also, I think people want to discuss real media more, its just less convenient because of the current arragnement of bundling all this styff in the New A/V Formars forum. I hate typos, screw em, DEAL!
the no side seems to be winning ;) Either way, the issue has come up before and myself and karl_lillevold have agreed to just make the rv9 thread sticky and leave the rest as it is for now. We have restructured a lot in the past and there are enough forums "on probation" right now. Changing things all the time isn't so great for the casual visitor as he/she tends to get confused. Changes should only be made if they really help to improve things and if there's enough interest. I do periodically evaluate the traffic in all the forums we have, and forums that fall below a certain treshold will be merged with other forums on related subjects. In the case of rv9 I'm not convinced that there's enough interest to merit its own forum.
