I am old school and recording software is very new to me. I didn't know alot about the old stuff, someone would do that for me and make it sound professonal. My question is where do i get drum loops that don't sound so much like a drum machine. I've heard recordings from people that have used Reaper and other recording software and you'd swear that it was a live drummer with roll offs and cymbal crashes etc and not the same beat over and over that drum machines seem to produce. Also, I see what is called "virtual instruments" how does that work, or that a whole other thread. As i said I am very new at this, and all seems like greek to me. Thanks for any input.

Check out EZDrummer it`s a vitual instrument drummer that comes with all kinds of grooves and fills. It`s very easy to use in Reaper and sounds and looks great. Plus there are a few more and I`m sure others in this forum will chime in and make suggestions.
Virtual instruments are effects (FX) that run inside of Reaper as plug-ins (or standalone, if you really want). Virtual instruments like EZDrummer, Addictive Drums, or Jamstix use recorded drum samples, load them into your computer's memory, and then allows you to play them back. Most of these applications also come with some bundled MIDI loops that are very useful and usually pretty good. Those loops, if you're not familiar with MIDI, basically just include information about what note is being played, how hard, and for how long. So, you can modify them pretty easily if you want. Plus, there are fill loops, intro loops, etc. Some companies sell just MIDI loops and often offer free sample packs. Search the forums for topics about "MIDI drum loops" and related topics. Do a few searches of the forum on those applications I listed above (EZDrummer, Addictive Drums, Jamstix) and some Google searches and you should be well on your way.
Make your own! Here's a nice link to get you started: You'll have to make the loops yourself (you can do it in Reaper, or something like Sounforge if you prefer) once you have a break you like, start playing with an EQ plug-in to shape the break to your liking This may help you to work out which EQ does what........ Hope this helps :D Edit: Click the link in my sig for lots of other links that may be helpful.......
I really like "Drums On Demand" there easy to work with, and they sound good to me. And...there pretty inexpensive.
