aluminum wheels porius? will they leak?

I have a set of the 24 spoke aluminum wheels that I want to put on my 1979 244 DL. They look like they may have had a thin clear plastic liner inside of them at one time, but now it is ragged and some of it is missing. Will the wheels leak air? Thanks in advance sorry about the spelling

Hi, Yes, aluminium/alloy wheel can well "leak" if not sealed correctly. One of the reasons I had my Galaxys refurbished was because they were corroded inside and out and could not hold air for long. That through leaking from the edges, but could also be from the lack of finish inside the rim. I believe you can get a sealing compound to seal the inside of the wheel without the need for a refurb of the wheel.. Des. . . ;)

Hi, Found nothing on google, bar the usual stuff to keep dirt out.. I suspect a wheel refurb establishment should be able to either advise or supply some stuff. Also check tyre fitters as they will likely use something.. Des. . .;)

Had the same problem years ago with a porious alloy wheel. All I did was once the wheel was removed clean up all the inner surfaces with different grades of wet and dry will all the alloy corrusion was removed and the inner surfaces smooth. Then applied a few even coats of cellulose laquer. The laquer then sealed the inside of the rim thus no air loss.
