I did some good stuff with a PowerTower Pro 225. Try not to store and mix on the system drive. The external SCSI drive is a good idea for your setup. Never tried the processor upgrade though. Someone else should be able to help you there. I dont recall reading about many problems with the upgrade as long as you dont go nuts with RTAS. Someday you will want a G4 though. I was able to get 113 plugs going before system meltdown on my G4-733 (22 tracks x 5 plugs and 1 track with 3). It was a simple 1 minute track just to test the CPU. It did take some tweaking though. Good luck & Peace

I recommend norton disc doctor to defreg the drive often! A normal part of feedin audio in is that the drive will get fragmented over time, this will stall your system and can taske it down completely if it gets out of hand. But otherwsie I wish you smooth sailing and productive recording new Digi001 user.

I use to have a G3/330 (was it 330 or...,well, anyway, something around that) before I bought my "brand new" G4 (not so brand new since this week ). All I can tell you is that I've noticed a real difference in terms of plug ins number, number of tracks and others. To give you a simple example, at the time I switched from G3 to G4, I was working (only for the money...)on a techno stuff where I needed to cut 8 tracks from a 1 grid to 1/4, then 1/8 .....up to 1/32. Well I can tell you I had to bounce or consolidate those tracks with the G3; it was freezing everytime the timeline was approaching this section. I've tried the same with G4 and it has worked. I've understood that you don't work on techno (neither do I , usually...); all I mean is if you can upgrade to a G4 processor, you should rather do that. To Lucky : what plug ins did you use in your test?!!!! 1 band EQs?..22 tracks with 5 plug ins each, that can't be ! No way ! Even with a 733....

I was able to get just over 30 plugs (mainly 1 band EQ, delays, a couple of compressors, and a stereo D-verb) with my 450MHz G4, but ever since adding Waves and GRM Tools, my plug count's dropped to around 25-30% of that - sometimes less. I'm really interested in hearing about people's experiences with the new 867MHz machines. Phil [ July 27, 2001: Message edited by: accession ]
