New MDD 1.25 GHz Mac Compatibility?

You can buy one direct from apple. go to apple store. Click on desktop models. right above the "ultimate" config on the right...about 3 inches up..is a link that says...OS 9 systems. Click on that...and viola. 2 new decked out 1.25 dual models custom configged with OS9 if you like.

I just Bought a New G4 Dual 1.25 and am running a Mix 3 with PT' v 6.1. Very stable and no problems yet. I bought mine from Tekserve in NYC and had one of their guys in the ProTools department install and set up all the software. I keep hearing about OS9 not being able to be used on these machines. If you buy it New, It will run OS 9. I had them install two ATA Drives, one dedicated to OSX and one to OS9, so far I havn't needed to go to the OS9 drive.

All you need to remember is that if it has Firewire 800, it will NOT boot OS 9. And Classic mode is NOT usable to run Pro Tools 5.x on. The really confusing thing is that there are 2 versions of the Dual 1.25, one that boots OS9 (regular FW400), and one that only boots OSX (FW800). The current one you can buy new from Apple WILL boot OS9, but before the G5s were announced they did sell a line-up of Powermac G4s that did NOT boot OS9, and those were a single 1 GHz, a dual 1.25, and a dual 1.42. Confusing, isn't it?
