Hi Jod, I had noticed a slight leak before getting the timing belt done around 7 weeks ago. As the mechanic had only found a PAS fluid leak, I thought I'd keep an eye on it. I actually cleaned the sump and subframe last week and have only driven 100 or so miles since, I thought it might help the search if it turned out that the leak was only there under pressure. Actually I don't think that much oil has leaked, diesel oil tends to be black and the sprockets and pulleys would have flung it around a bit - when we removed the undertray there wasn't a whole lot of oil there, though I concede it looks like a bad night on ER or Casualty, if you substitute black for red! Incidentally, like you I don't do coincidences, so I'm wondering what's the chances of this problem being caused / exacerbated by the original timing belt replacement job? I don't really want to question my mechanic's competence, I was most impressed at his speed and dexterity today, but I can't help wondering...
