Thanks again for your help! I was not able to get the firmware roll back to ever happen but... It looks like I've solved the problem(s). Staying on 5.2 wasn't all that stable after the firmware update had already finished. But, after going in and deleting all UAD-related drivers and registry entries, I was able to install 5.2, then 5.3 over that. UAD2Pcie.sys wouldn't crash (BSOD) my computer any more. But there was a remaining problem. A session from last Thursday (pre-software/firmware update) that would run my ROMplers and UAD plug-ins now gave an error message "Out of Host Memory" before all UAD plug-ins were disabled. My session had BFD 2 (with one crash cymbal loaded) Battery 3 (with 3-4 samples loaded) and a Kontakt 3 instance with a shinai loaded up. I tried re-saving my session over again 3 times, each time with one more of these ROMplers removed. The UAD-2 plug-ins would not be enabled until I loaded the version with all 3 removed. I did some tests and found out that any sample-based instruments loaded up would disable my UAD-2, regardless of the actual size of the session. The session ran just fine before with UAD plug-ins, plenty of editing, Kontakt 3, BFD 2 and Battery 3. But now there was not enough memory after the firmware update. I have 2GB installed, the session with BFD, Battery and Kontakt uses about 1GB. No change since before the UAD-2 firmware update. After trying one last time to run the session with my ROMplers (failing), I did a little research about how 32-Bit XP allocates memory resources to hardware, windows operations and applications. I decided to try this: I didn't install more RAM though; still only 2GB. Just used the /3GB and a /USERVA=2900. My understanding is that this effectively limits the amount of RAM the hardware is allowed to steal from the system. Rebooted and BAM!!! Everything runs as before the firmware update; ultra fast and powerful enough to take on any 60-track project; like magic. Everything loads and the UAD Plug-Ins stay enabled. It looks like the UAD-2 demands more RAM from the system than it did before the firmware update, leaving less for the session and even the UAD plug-ins(!). In my case, using the 3GB switch with a USERVA=2900 works. But, given the slightly complicated nature of the tweak and, from what I've read a bit risky, it is probably advisable for any one using a UAD-2 and creating music with sample-based instruments to just install 4GB of RAM. It's easy and supposedly hardware can see all 4GB while the operating system may not. Anyway, I've got work to do now that the tools are usable again. If there are any changes or updates, I'll let you know!
I recently had trouble loading a project with UAD-2 Plug-ins and a reboot did not help. I've since tightened the /USERVA switch to 2600 Everything loads again.
I know this is an older thread but I've had trouble with UAD-2 conflicting specifically with NI programs. The Akoustik, Elektrik and B4 all cause blue screens when opening old projects...take out the NI programs and no more blue screen. UAD programs are more important to me than the NI stuff so it had to go but I'm going to try this ram thing now...thanks for posting. I still have a couple of old projects that I need to open occasionally and if this RAM trick works that would be cool. cam
