There isn't really a "perfect" setting. Giving more RAM than the minimum to both PT and DAE is generally a very good idea, but you don't want to go overboard. If it were me, with that much RAM, I would probably give both PT and DAE something like 80 to 120 MB, which would leave plenty for the Mac OS, and some left over for any soft synths or other applications you may be using. When I installed Pro Tools LE 5.2.1 (on my Powerbook with 768 MB RAM) for the Mbox, I just gave 100 MB to each, which was plenty. The most important thing to watch out for is giving too much RAM and not leaving enough for Mac OS-based functions like QuickTime. Using QT video, bouncing to disk, and other audio functions that Pro Tools uses QuickTime for will all increase the amount of RAM that the Mac OS uses during those functions. So while your "About this Computer" in the Finder/Apple Menu may show the Mac OS using quite a bit below 100 MB most of the time, if you check the same window at other times you will find that number to be much higher. So you want to leave some breathing room there.
