sounds like you want that new melodyne editor thing. What you are describing is pulling apart the harmonic content of the audio, not mere audio editing. As for noise, yeah try reafir, but I would also recommend using a multiband compressor as an expander on the hi frequency content so that you lose the noise, without the articulations - that said adobe audition is very good at noise reduction... Kind regards Dave Rich

Thank you all for the replies! I did download Reaper a year ago, though I've had to reformat my hard drive since then. I plan on purchasing it for this project. Thanks again!

I would give Reaper a try to see if you can develop a workflow. If not, Audition seems to be perfect for what you need to do.

About your number 5, true, that's a job for the incoming Melodyne DNA. But we don't know how will it perform on the complete mix. If you give it a SINGLE polyphonic track (like a vocal-only mixdown), it could do fairly well. But, giving it a track with bass, guitar, piano, drums, can generate a LOT of fuss and DNA probably won't recognize as well. If at all.

jamesp and Driven1, thanks for the info and suggestions! It's obvious that I'll need to try out the demos of both Reaper and Audition (if Cockos will let me download the demo again after a year and a half.) Horror of horrors, it sounds like I may even need to *buy* both!

If you want to change an E7 to an E, and you have all the tracks on your hard drive, you could also consider re-recording the guitar part. You could re-do the whole thing or try and match the sound and level on a new track and cross-fade it in. I think that would be a lot easier (and more musical) than trying to zap a single note in a chord with a notch filter. Just a thought. Once you have those tracks on your hard drive, you're going to have a LOT of options, no matter which daw you end up working with. Down the road you could have a lot of fun 'remixing' your old stuff ; ).
