Hi My experience is not directly linked to your question, but you may get some use from it: I fitted an ITG panel filter to my scooby impreza turbo and noticed no change what soever, apart from the ommission of the new paper filter at service time, so in the long run, the K&N panel would pay off. I fitted a pipercross induction kit to the Volvo 850 T5. This was a poorly design installation and the kit had lots of movement in it. To be fair, fitting an induction kit without doing something to partition it away from the rest of the engine and feeding it lots of cold air, I'd expect a performance loss. A decent panel filter should be worthwhile. Even if you don't get any noticeable performance gains, it will last many services.

I've been told that a BSR optiflow kit on a dyno produces 9 bhp more than a fancy panel filter. They aint cheap but do come with a metal heat sheild and an input ensuring the filter gets cold air from the front. edit: this was on a T5

to fit or not to fit, looks like if you fit one it lasts for life so saving on air filters for the life off the car ,anyone know how they are cleaned [ dont tell the wife but i have used the dish washer for engine parts before]:Banane32: and then re oiled,having said that i read that they can do 50,000 without cleaning
