Coughs and Splutters 1994 model

Ok here's the scenario. car fails MOT on Emissions, refer to forum, )see doing my bit for global warming) I purchase new Lambda sensor (NTK) from Andrew Page in Sheffield. Unplug/Unscrew/Screw in/Plug in, job done. Car starts fine all fault codes cleared, go for a test drive, hard acc no problem gentle cruise no problem tick over when cold no problem, tickover when hot erratic, drops to about 700/750 rpm engine coughs and splutters and jerks about in drive (auto) accel' fine from tickover. Check codes again, all ones, goes to check ignition codes as per Haynes, and there is no socket to plug into!!. Now all I did was replace a Lambda sensor. I have a retest tomorrow, any ideas guys as to what could be the cause?

I've heard of this before when a non-Volvo sensor was used and alot on his forum recommend that Volvo sensors are used to prevent problems. I've only had this problem myself once and I went for a genuine sensor and problem solved. Hope this helps

Thanks for the input. As an update the car passed its retest today no prob on emissions. I managed to sort out the idle fault, it appeared to be an air leak from the aux air pump that only happened when the engine was warm. I just reseated the pipes and all is well. It lives to fight another day.:Banane32:
