Do you use GMC?

I started finding problems with some of my encodes when GMC was on using Divx 5.02 and had to disable it. What are the pros and cons of using or not using it? Has Divx 5.03 fixed the problems it has?

when i started using divx pro i used gmc all the time. then i read in this forum gmc is bad and not to use it for this or that. i never seen a problem with the rips i did with it on. but i dont use it anymore, more because it slows the encode down not because of any quality issues.

DivX 5.0.2 had problems with GMC, yes. As for DivX 5.0.3, well I don't know. They screwed up B-frames in this release, so I'm staying away from it (artifacts all over my encodes). I would assume they didn't fix it, as they state directly it isn't compliant with the standard for MPEG4/GMC (thus, it's not in any of their little 'profiles').

i used it all the time. However it does intorduce some blocky artifacts when encoding from slightly iffy sources, mainly VCDs.

How do the problems with GMC reveal themselves?

usualy blocks in the images that are distorted from the origonal picture... and subsequent testing with Psychovisual Enchancement shows that it reduces quality when the video is fullscreened, mainly vertical lines...
