Years a go I got into Jazz rock fusion and a Track called Stratus by Billy Cobham of Mahavishnu fame was one of my favourites. This is just a little piece I just had to do with a similar the bass line.
An interesting variation on the original. The recording quality sounds very clear/good on my system. I like it :). Coincidentaly, there's a cover of Stratus on the recently released Chad Smith's Bombastic Meatbats album. So this is the second occasion in a couple of weeks I've been reminded of Billy Cobham's Spectrum album, with the late great Tommy Bolin on guitar. Pete
Thanks for listening. It wasn't even an attempt at the original but that cycling bass line has always haunted me and yes it was a shame about Bolin but then party hard etc....... Thanks for the compliment on the guitar sound. Not too shoddy for a 50 quid Chinese Strat with a 14.95 rails/blade humbucker and Podfarm :)
I've extended the track and done some more drum and bass work and guitar and found a really nice organ sound.Cans mixed so a little more work to do but something to listen to :)
Sweet! Great lead work and an awesome groove. I am not familiar with Stratus, but it sounds like this is 'inspired-by' and not a lift? Is that right? You didn't really ask for mix feedback, but I have to let you know that the bass is just a bit too low in the mix. If you turn the volume down relatively low, you can still hear the guitar and drums, but the bass is gone for a good part of the song. It's an easy way to do a sanity check with your level matching. I really like what you have done with the mix. The rhythm section sounds very dry and the guitar has what sounds like it has a heavy spring reverb on it. This is exactly what you might hear live in a Chicago style electric blues club on any given night. It's great!
Thanks for the feedback.Yes I've played with the mix a bit raised the bass and messed with a few things. You are right about the spring reverb on the Rhythm sound along with the Wah.That is part of the patch I made in Podfarm and there may have been one on the main guitars somewhere. I didn't post several remixes but one of the nice things about boxnet which I've been using well over a year now is that you can,"Update" a file without having to post a new Url so the latest mix has just been refreshed since you posted :) I have other mixes but didn't bother posting them.I tried a more,"Live" sounding kit/FX but is just didn't seem to suit. I have noticed that the track has been downloaded over 60 times since posting :D Link updated :)
