...and anyone else who feels qualified to answer. How well do you think Reaper can run on a system like this: Basically I'm considering rigging one of these up with a flash drive and well, you have a completely silent (and of course rather portable) DAW. While I'm sure Reaper WILL run on it, it's really a matter of HOW WELL, like how many tracks and processes this system could possibly handle. Any thoughts/guesses/whatever welcome. Thanks.

I have a laptop and like most is has variable cooling, which means they crank up intermittently. REALLY annoying. I think I'm going to rig one of these up to record straight tracks, and then transfer over to a nastier machine.

A tip: for maximum track count, record in a compressed format. I did a firewire 24track session of a live band on my laptop and recorded in wavepack (brilliant audio format) in 24bit and it went smoothly. Basically less data to and from HD and a little more cpu usage. Ogg would be lossy but use heaps less HD. It wouldn't work with wav. cool

Well that is not what I have found. When recording multiple tracks at the same time the bottleneck is the HD, the cpu isn't too stressed (well not on my laptop). IMHO 24bit is vital, there are many articles on it. Higher khz is less important. If your peaking at say 70% with 16bit then your low level detail (that get brought up by compression and mastering) is down around 8bit. It does not sound good. There is a reason 24bit is pretty much an industry bottom end standard. The bandwidth is vital.
