RTAS RealVerb Devouring CPU

I've noticed when people here give page numbers for reference, mine don't always match either. I guess there are different versions of the PT manual.

Yeah, I was wondering about the aux send thing. Will it take up extra tracks to use them though? Thanks for the replies everybody. Tom

I think there is something wrong Tom. I've been watching your post with curiosity waiting for one of the guys/girls to help you out. I wish I could. I can run a few reverbs at a time. Usually I will run a few reverbs (4 or 5) just to get a sense of the sound, then I will go to the Aux channel idea to conserve power. I'm running a 466/384 meg. I would re-word your ques. and start a new thread. Someone here can help.

Hmmm...Gargoyle, are you using the Kind of Loud RTAS RealVerb? I remember reading that that real time plug-ins take more CPU power to run. But it does seem wrong that I can only use 2 at a time. Maybe I'll start a new thread. Thanks. Tom

I have not used RealVerb extensively, but it is FAR more intensive than most other RTAS reverbs. The basic issue is that reverb, specifically, is a major CPU drain. You could get tens of other types of processors to happen with cycles 1 reverb uses. It also depends on how long your decay time is set. As far as reverb, aux sends are the way to do it. You wouldn't use an insert on a analog board (usually), so why use one in PT? Check that bit out wherever it is in the manual. Also check the optimization hints in the manual and on the site. Do some tests with fewer tracks and automation and see if you can get more RealVerbs. Regarding the manual pages, maybe people are not clear whether they are giving page numbers in the Acrobat file or the number on the actual page of content-- They are often different. Best, Brian
