Conversion: SVCD -> DivX -- virualdub problem

I followed the guide on doom9's website using gordian knot and everything seemed to be going ok. Then, it crashed in the video processing portion. I decided that I would just do the video myself, so I opened vdub and tried to open the first MPG file (3 of them). I get: "MPEG Import Filter: pack synchronization error" I'm assuming this is also what caused the crash. I get that on all three files. What does it mean? Thanks!

Vdub can't open MPG2 streams... 

That is, virtual dub can't open MPG2 streams (as SVCD has) so you get that error message, because Vdub asumes that the stream you are trying to open is an MPG1 stream. Use DVD2AVI to open the MPG2 stream and frameserve it to vdub (through avisynth or vfapi).

Bonzo is correct in everything he said. But here is some more details: 1. Load the mpg into DVD2AVI 2. Select none in field operation 3. Select mpeg audio, and track 1 4. Save project. 5. Load the d2v file into tmpegenc 6. Select advanced int he settings tab and go to inver telecine. 7. Just press start, and let it "deitnerlace" the movie. 8. When its done save the project. 9. Load the .tpr created by tmpeg into VFAPI 10 make sure you have the VFAPI converter plugin installed for VFAPI and save your .avi 11. Load this pseudo .avi into vdub I would use avisynth as it is faster with decomb deitnerlacing. If you know how to do this use this method. Hopefully this will give you a crude quick guide as to A way(note: one of MANY MANY methods) to get an mpeg-2 file into vdub.

The simplest and easiest way to convert MPEG2 (SVCD or DVD) to DivX (using 3.11 or 5.x divx codec) is to use Vidomi (from ). You just load the MPEG2 file in, set 1 pass, 2 pass etc and then Encode. Very simple and great results also.
