Hi, I'm upgrading from 001 to 002 and trading in my G4 for a G5 (dual 1.8). As a current Reason 2.5 owner I've been anxious to move to PT 6 and rewire BUT I see on the apple web site that a lot of pro-audio users are experiencing noise problems through their monitors, including 002 users. I also hear some very happy people here using their G5's and 002. Apparently the firewire problems have not been resolved, (just checked with apple discussion tonight again) so what's the deal? Is it a crapshoot to go to G5 or are there a lot of happy campers out there, OR have you found an interim solution to this problem? Thanks for your advice, I'd like to make the transition mid March but don't want to go from my currently stable system if it's not yet worth it. Thanks
i have this same problem, its not too bad but still noticable. I went to system prefs and there is no external hardware button. i have a 2gig g5.

Apparently, REV E of the G5 power supplies solve this problem. You have to contact your Apple Service centre, (and perhaps also AppleCare), and get them to replace your power supply. Please let me know if this fixes the issue.
Rev E looks a bit optimistic read these posts for more detail I'll try the NAP suggestion and see what happens. My question is: Why aren't Apple or Digidesign telling us about this? Not good enough
I can't find any way to access "external hardare" and thus turn off "nap" can you explain for users of Mac OS X 10.3.1 how to do this? A screenshot perhaps? You can email me at mailto: Cheers

Martin, you have to download a program that's called CHUD 3.0.1 (availiable at apple.com) and install it. Then you can turn it off in the system preferences..
