Sys_FileType.ccp Assertion????

I keep getting the some new errors when opening some recent sessions. The session will begin to open, then it will ask for a folder to put converted audio files and then I get the following message - "Could not complete the "Open Session..." command because an assertion occured in "Sys_FileType.ccp". line 74. This has happened on 3 sessions now in the last week. What does it mean?

Hello, I have seen this caused by Firewire Drives that are not formatted with Apples > Special > Erase Disk. First try disabling any third party firewire extensions. If that doesn't work, or if the drive no longer mounts. Turn the third party extensions back on and mount the drive. Then backup the drive, highlight it on the desktop and go to the Special menu and choose Erase Disk. This will install Apples FW drivers on the disk. Then disable the third party FW extensions again and give it a try. regards, mike

I have all the audio material on SCSI drives, I had video on one firewire drive that was setup the correct way - i.e. no 3ed party driver. The strange thing is that the session will open up to a point and then it opens a dialog box to choose a folder to put the "converted files" This is after running a search and finding the audio files. Also, if I try to skip all files and fades, it still wants to choose a folder for converted files. I tried taking the firewire drive off line and I still have the same problem. My extention set has no extra or 3ed party extentions. Only a couple of sessions are doing this. The rest on the same drives are fine.

Just a thought Tripit: We had a very odd situation (we were using a Firewire drive) where the same thing happened to us. This was after the session was working correctly for weeks. All of the sudden we had your problem. Talked to Digi Tech Support and went through the firewire suggestions they made and no change. After pulling our hair out and our airdate aproaching, I noticed we had changed the name of the main folder from "illinois" to "illinois/nashville". Got rid of the "/" in the folder name and everything was cool! So you may want to check and see if the folder or session has any characters other than numbers or letters. Don't know if this is your problem but thought I would mention it. Good luck.

Thanks Michael, you may be on to something there. Actually, I had noticed that some of the files had a "_" in the the middle of the name. I think this might be because the sessions might have been initally set up using the "Mac/PC compatibility" check box. I've never seen the"_" used in Mac files, only PC. I also never use the "Mac/PC compatibility" either, but I think these sessions may have been set up with that feature on. I will try renaming the files later today and see if that works. An underscore "_" is usually not a problem. Slashes can be problems because a slash indicates a directory change. For example if you named a file "Nashville/Illinois" the system may look for a file named Illinois in a directory named Nashville. At this point its usually ok to name files with slashes if the files are only used on OS 9. But if they sit on a UNIX or Windows server there could be problems. Once we start using OS X we will not be allowed to name files with a Slash. It won't even accept the character. A lot of people that use UNIX use underscores to separate words.

We are running OS 9.2.2 and only have Macs. We could NOT use a slash (/) in the title folder. We were pulling our hair out till I figured this out. This is on a G4 933 running a PT HD system. Good luck.

Well after checking the files, I can't see anything out of place in the names. I tried changing the names on the files that kept coming up lost and that didn't change anything. Very strange and it's making me pull my hair out.
