I've been going mad trying reverbs lately. The one I have settled on is these loaded into Reaverb.I'm hopeless at choosing reverb..I'm no sound engineer, but I seem to be getting decent results with these impulses.Give em a go sure..they're free! Edit..I'm generally only interested in plates Ithink..and these sound really nice and shimmery.

Me too, I rarely hear differences when just putting a reverb onto a single track. But I think I can tell a difference when it sits in a mix. The IK's CSR always stood out for me. Very decent reverb. Very natural. I like the TC M30 for one preset: the guitar room. It's my go-to reverb for guitar tracks. I liked Ambience, too, when I strated mixing. But I always found it difficult to set up in order to sound properly. Epicverb never worked for me. Same Reaverb. And than, naturally, there's the incredible UAD EMT 140, mighty and powerful, but a pure plate reverb anyway. Never gets lost n a mix. I think it rather has to be used carefully. My 2 cents ...

I'm a big fan of Aether by 2CAudio. It's my go to reverb. The new Lexicons are good, but expensive. For simplicity Eos (Audio Damage) mixes really well into the mix. I prefer the tweakability, low latency and low CPU of algorythmic reverbs. Modern ones are amazing. Convolution is fine but good convolution needs big CPU, as it needs layers of sample impulses taken at different volumes. Really it's a snapshot of a particular volume sound in a set space. Great for a certain atmosphere and mood, but not as good as a bread and butter transparent reverb, I think. Each to his own of course, but this is my experience.

Curious about Wizoo reverb, which seems to have been swallowed up and abandoned by Digi. Anyone know the story or if the orphan software is still available anywhere?

Wolffman, when I use the term "thicker" it might not mean what you think it's means...it is hard to describe sound, like describing colors to a blind man... It seems to me that the tails don't thin out, they stay solid all the way to the end, where as the other ones seem to go thin and washy....it is hard to describe. But a pair of headphones and a good clean dry snare of clave signal will demo what I mean...

I purchased the IK CSR Classik reverb suite, as part of some deal way back, and it generally meets my needs, plus it's low on CPU usage. So it's my go to reverb suite. Fairly recently, I also purchased Valhalla room, after I heard good reports about it. It's very good. The CPU hit is about twice that of CSR, although it's still not too high, running at 5 to 6% on my old computer. It's also a snip at only $50. I still need to play with Valhalla room more but I think that, if you've only got CSR Room from the CSR reverb suite, Valhalla room might give you something extra. But you've got the demo to play with, so you can decide for yourself. I've often been curious about whether Breverb might give me something extra, plus I believe it's low on CPU usage. I while back I did some Googling and there was a lot of discussion on CSR vs Breverb. But I think I've got all my algorithmic reverb needs covered with CSR Suite and Valhalla Room. btw. There's a fairly recent review of algorithmic reverbs at the link below: Pete

I use to really like Redline. But it acts funny lately. I haven't been using it because of that. I use UAD 140 and 250 and impulses (M7, L300,480L) And I like Valhalla too. I always forget I have M30. I liked that too on gtr. I got it when they first announced it was free I used it on a album.. Then when tracking a long project not mixing..come time to mix I forget to try some of the free stuff I picked up.

I tend to keep one plugin for each category. In that way I can practice more with it and not lose focus tying other plugins. IK's CSR is giving me the results I am looking for. You have already enough reverbs, CSR alone is more than enough. You can spend the extra money on something else :)
